Moar tunez plz.
posted by Leila in musicWe know you hate them, but we don’t care. We call this one “Metropolis,” and we think it’s pretty awesome.
She’s got metal arms
And metal legs
And a metal soul
She’s a robot
Pretty little sister
Sent by that mad professor
We’re drowning in the water
Watch it rising through the slums
Catacombs and labyrinths
Broken gums and candy synths
Skeletons and communists
It’s our metropolis
Yeah, our metropolis
Brother let me take over
I’ll sweat for the day
The mediator is risen
Watch him toil away
Watch the angel preachin’
In church while Daddy’s watchin’
Them bones, they are a-walkin’
As we’re workin’ our lives away
Catacombs and labyrinths
Broken gums and candy synths
Skeletons and communists
It’s our metropolis
Yeah, our metropolis
We’ve got metal arms
And metal legs
And metal souls
We’re all robots
No more! No moooore!
Riot in the streets, no more
No more! No more! No moooore!
Shall we work down there for you
In the catacombs and labyrinths
With our broken gums and candy synths
We are the skeletons and communists
It’s our metropolis
Yeah, our metropolis
Ha, I was listening to this when my sister asked, “What are you listening to?
(evasively–I do not share my corner of the Internet with my family) “Someone created a song and posted it on YouTube.”
“I kind of like the voice.”
Then I listened to your previous song (the dog song);
“Did she just say her dog got shot?”
“Ha ha. Yeah.”
“Ha ha. That’s funny. What are people saying about this song?”
“Depressing.”
“How much more of it are you going to listen to? It IS kind of depressing.”
I like your dog song despite its lugubrious lyrics! You certainly could moonlight as an indie folk-rocker. More music, please.

Who told you we hate this? I think this is awesome, although it probably has a lot to do with the fact that it’s totally relevant to one of my classes, “Movies, Fascism, and Communism,” wherein we watched Fritz Lang’s Metropolis. If I had to guess, that’s where the references come from, no? I think it’s awesome how one creative force can lead to another! Maybe you’ll consider taking that class when you get here. Tratner is a ball. Great song! It’s catchy. I could totally see it as a theme song for a modernization of the movie.

Wow. I really like the song. Very witty, indeed. Great voice, by the way.
